Exploring the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center spotlighted a key initiative for regional tourism and cultural preservation: making historical education and immersive cultural experiences accessible while amplifying Indigenous voices.

Hosted in collaboration with Rebellion Group’s CT Season Pass initiative and featured on NBC CT’s CT Live, the segment brought viewers inside the world’s largest Native American museum to showcase its 305,000-square-foot facility, interactive 16th-century Pequot Village, and extensive historical archives spanning over 20,000 years.

The conversation highlighted how cultural institutions and tourism partners must work together to offer immersive storytelling, revitalize native languages, and provide high-value experiences for families through statewide pass initiatives.

During the broadcast, Nakai Northup (Mashantucket Tribal Citizen) and Sam Barrett (Rebellion Group) discussed the significance of the museum’s exhibits and the impact of the CT Season Pass on regional tourism. The segment highlighted how the museum serves as a living platform for modern tribal culture, fine arts, language revitalization, and interactive community programming.

“This museum is tribally owned and operated, giving us the opportunity to share our point of view and perspectives on our history. For so long, others highlighted our history for us, but this building gives us the platform to share our own story with everyone,” said Northup.

“The first thing that struck me was the scale of the museum—it’s enormous. This is more than learning about the Pequot Tribe; it’s a story about the history of the United States and the back story of Connecticut,” added Barrett.
